The Power Boat Section of the Swan Yacht Club welcomes you to the club!

Call Nigel or Bob to arrange to come out with us on our boat or we can arrange a skipper to come out on your boat to show how it is done.

You can now earn points by attending any water based Power Section Event

Don't have a boat?
You are still welcome to join us as check crew. We will teach you the ropes - it's not difficult to learn!

What is time trialling?
Firstly, the competitive events are held from May to September each year, giving you the opportunity to "muck about in boats" during the winter months.

Boats nominate their most suitable speed, from five knots up to fifteen knots and must start on their allotted time. They then proceed on a given course using river spit posts, in the given time frame. For each second early or late, the boat loses a point, and courses generally cover 15 to 18 check points for the event.

Importantly, it is not a race. Any excessive speed, or blatant changes of speed, incur severe penalties. Skippers must take wind, tide, other competitors and, importantly, non-competition boats into account, as the rules of right-of-way prevail at all times. Secondly, as with any sport there are club and inter-club events and, of course, the associated social interaction.

We're a friendly bunch who would welcome your company and participation. We will assist you in every possible way to enjoy time trialing and have fun as we do.

What do we do prior to March and after September you may ask - enjoy the summer sun out on the ocean or river - what else!
